I had moved to Ottawa to live with my mom when I was 16. Shortly after my 17th birthday I met this guy "D" who I fell head over heels with, my first true love so to speak. Though we never really branded ourselves as an "item", we did spend a lot of time together and would make out often. We told each other EVERYTHING. This would only last for a few months as my mom announced that we were moving back to Winnipeg. I was devestated, but me and him kept in contact while I was back in Manitoba.

Fast forward four years... I went back to Ottawa to see if we still had anything left from before. We were still close friends and told each other everything, but, he was not ready to commit to me or anyone, I was crushed but wanted him in my life in some capacity even if we were just "friends". Then it happened, some one made up a story about something I did and he believed it. We had a huge fight and he vowed he never wanted to see me again. I went back to Winnipeg again with a broken heart.

Over the next decade I ended up getting married and having a son, but my thoughts would always roam to "D". Sometimes fond memories, sometimes anger, but a huge piece of my heart still belonged to him.

My "husband" turned out to be a chronic cheater and we were in the process of ending our marriage. I had gone online and ended up talking to one of my old friends from Ottawa and the topic of "D" came up and I had mentioned that I missed "D". My friend had to go offline as did I but we ended up online again later that night, this time he brought "D" into our conversation.

"D" and I talked that whole night, and every day since then. We STILL had feelings for each other and I flew out a month later for a visit. It was amazing, we laughed, we talked, we kissed, we made love, and we cuddled.

For seven months we did the long distance thing, then I took the big plunge and moved to Ottawa for the third time, this time it's been four years together, we are in the midst of planning our wedding and our future lives together.

I know that this was not a break up story per say, but I wanted to show that you can break up a few times before getting it right. A break up doesn't always have to be forever.

I met my ex through a woman that I worked with (Who, in retrospect, turned out to be as much of a nutcase as my ex). So my ex and I fall "in love" and after about a year of dating, we're engaged.

At this point my soon-to-be husband had been living in the dorms on the military base an hour a way from my home. He promises that he would make the commute a little easier and move closer- even just a little(He doesn't have a car so I'm doing all the driving). So the time comes for him to find a new apartment and I find out that he completely disregards his originally promise and moves about 25 minutes the other direction. Great. We get into a fight, he tells me it's over. I spend the night miserable. The next morning I call him and we work out our issues- he then proceeds to tell me that he got mad at me and "closed" our wedding account (That he hadn't contributed a penny to) and that he left the money at the bank. Of course I find out later that he actually spent it in one night on god knows what. Like an idiot I forgive him and we continue to date....
Nine months later I drive to his apartment (still an hour and 25 minutes away) with red velvet cupcakes and plans for a romantic evening. I help myself in, he's cleaning the bathroom. I give him a big hug... and right as were having this nice moment I see the words "I want my first child to be yours." as an incoming test message. Long story short- He had been cheating on me with this chick for a while. I left heartbroken. The next week I get a death threat from the girl he cheated on me with telling me to leave him alone. I write her off as being crazy but call my ex to talk to him about it. We're talking again anf of course he says he loves me. A couple days later he "loses" his phone and is calling me from a friend's phone to tell me how he wants to work our relationship out and that he needs me. A week later I get a call from his family telling me that he was getting a restraining order against me for stalking him (really long drive to stalk someone), that he changed his number because he was afraid for his safety and that I was crazy. Two weeks later and totally not stalking him- I'm posting lovely new pictures of me and my new love interest. It's a win-win, I found someone better and he'll never have to worry about me "stalking" him again.

My ex and I have known each other since we were 5. We were best friends from the age of 14 and dated briefly when we were 15- He chased me and I caved. Two weeks later he dumped me for his ex, who was two years older. Kids stuff, i soon forgave him; wasn't that into him anyway.
When we were 18 and at University we would visit each other on the weekends. One time i went to stay with him for a weekend and didnt return to the city i was studying in for a week. We quickly fell in love, into the 'honeymoon period' and committed to a years long-distance relationship, seeing each other once a month. We moved in together the next year when we both graduated. Seven years down the line, we'd had our fair share of knocks but were always a team- we still had our strong group of friends from high school and managed to maintain our individual interests and own lives as well as having a great time together. To everyone outside; we were the perfect couple. I thought so. Being a smug prick never serves you well; remember that.

My grandfather died in June 09', followed by 3 extended family deaths and the death of my other grandfather in the September. I was a bit of a wreck. In December 09', my ex asked me to marry him. It was very romantic and i was the happiest i'd been in my life. I started the wedding plans right away.. but a little scared. He was pushing the wedding stuff and wanted it to be small, no fuss and sooner rather than later. I charged on with the purchases and booking the venues etc.

In April 10' he sat me down and told be he'd been seeing a girl from his office for two months. He said that he 'loved' me but he wasnt 'in love' with me. Seems he'd 'loved me' enough to want to get married in a fu*king rush in the December but by the February had decided it wasnt what he wanted. Trouble is, my ex is a sap who can't function alone- so he'd spent two months making sure the girl was interested enough and setting himself up a nice little back up plan before filling me in on the fact my world was about to be smashed to bits. To add an extra kick in the teeth; he'd told of his cheating bastard ways to three (3) of our mutual friends before one of them made him come to me with it. I threw him out, but there was no fight from him. He'd already made the desicion to go.

Two months on and i'm starting from scratch. He went straight into a relationship with the office tart (who signed my engagement card 'wishing you both all the happiness in the world' by the way). Pair of fu*kers.

I had been in a relationship with my fiance for 3.5 years when he decided to move to TX after losing his job. He returned a couple months later but basically I had already emotionally detached from him leaving and him not talking to me while he was away. We went to couples counseling while I went on eharmony. I told a mutual about a couple dates I had went on (her husband was a close friend of my ex). A few months after I had forgotten about the eharmony stint my friend's husband tells my ex what had happened (right around the time the therapy was starting to work). One day after therapy he takes me to a park (we never did anything romantic) to have 'the talk' with me. He asked me if I had something to tell him...and I literally didnn't remember going on eharmony at this point..it was so long ago. We talk for a couple hours...more than he ever communicated before. He didn't break up with me, but he wanted to take some time. I texted him a week later, and a week after that, and a week after that - the last time asking if he wanted the ring back. And then I discontinued our relationship on facebook. I talked to him later and he didn't even notice, and he "never got" my texts...he was planning to talk to me to tell me his decision... 3 months after I broke up with him...at our mutual friends wedding (above).

Back story: B/f and I have lived together for 5 years. We have been through a lot. Losing grandparents, my father having cancer, him being laid off...the list goes on. We have talked about marriage before and he always said that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me.

We are at thanksgiving dinner with his family and as always the questions begin about future wedding plans. B/f flips shit and in front of his whole family tells me he is moving out, he can't handle the pressure. I still had to drive an hr to my parents house and have thanksgiving with them. I figured he just snapped with pressure of the holidays and what not. I went home around 10pm...his shits gone...phone turned off.

To make things worse, his brother calls yesterday to ask me out on a date. Weirdest fucking family ever.

A friend of mine was finally taking the plunge. I drove 3 hrs to the wedding with my girlfriend, made it to the church on time and introduced her to all of my friends. We get to the reception hall and everything is going great. One of my good friends is chatting her up but I am thinking that he just was trying to be a nice guy, keep her company... We end up going to a bar after the wedding to continue the drunken fun. I go to the bathroom and as I am returning I see my girlfriend with this particular friend...kissing in a booth behind the bar. I went to the bar took a few shots and went back to the hotel. Left her ass there. She came back to the room in the morning...her shit was outside the door. I told her to get a ride with someone who cared. Haven't seen the bitch since or talked to my friend. What the fuck man.

My boyfriend and I had been dating for a year and a half. I thought it was really going somewhere. One day he calls me and says that he really needs to talk to me. I come home and he has set up a lovely candle light dinner. I was so surprised and happy. He smiles and pulls out a ring box and then he pushes play on the cd player. "Dont go away mad(Just go away) was playing. Seeing my confusion he explained, "Oh sorry, forgot to change the song from when I broke up with my girlfriend today". My mouth just dropped open as he changed the song to some sort of wedding march song and then asked me to marry him. I very nicely told him to fuck off and what an asshole he was and then took my leave.

I met Adam online. When we finally met in person a few months later, I fell in love with him. We dated for nine months. He was even my first. I thought things were going quite well, when he announced, out of the blue, that he was moving back to his hometown. I was sad, but I didn’t think we needed to break up because the town was only two hours away. When I said so, he confessed that he was moving home to get back with his ex. Then I found their wedding announcement online. The wedding date had already passed. He’d been married a month before he broke up with me!
